The Many Neuroses of Quel
1. I can't fall asleep if: I have a new outfit to wear the next day. It gives me that "first day of school" feeling. I was always excited about my first day of school, but I was even more excited about showing off my new duds! My many new outfits that I had already planned according to the following day's activities- they would keep me going for at least 2 or 3 weeks! O Happy day!
I do have a problem with falling asleep when a closet door is open. However, that only stands in places that aren't my current bedroom. My wonderful boyfriend has created me this "tent" like canopy that drapes the entire bed.
When I’m waiting for something such as an elevator I do a countdown to give me something to do while I’m waiting. Sometimes I start at 10, sometimes if I know I’ll be waiting longer, I start counting at 30 or 60. I like to see if I can time it just right to get to 1 at the exact time the elevator arrives, or the commercial break is over, or etc. I’m not the most patient person – the counting helps me.
I eat desserts and things that are frosted upside down. The frosting is my favorite part and I like to have that part hit my tongue first. There is an exception with cupcakes. I like my cake to frosting ratio to be close to equal in my mouth. Eating cupcakes the Quel Way: take the bottom of the cupcake and tear it off. Stick it to the top of the cupcake. Make a cupcake sandwich! Frosting goes in the middle. Each bite is perfection with the same amount of cake and frosting in every bite. I know it’s a little detailed, but I’m a detail girl!
I often crave everything! Now it is confession time. I am a lot like my dear grandmother, rest her soul. She would be thinking about the next 2 meals before she finished the current one. She adored looking at food, making food, eating food, and everything involving food. Food is a lot of fun. I have to be careful and not eat everything that I crave. I can think of 100 things a day I want to eat. I crave so many things it could gross a person out! It all stays in my head so as not to frighten people!
When I watch Disney’s Cinderella I always get a little nervous that the mice might not make it up the stairs with the key in time for Cinderella to try on the glass slipper. If it gets too intense, I have to breathe and remember that it was animated years ago – they’ll make it every time- just in the nick of time!
I read magazines very methodically; back to front – while only looking at pictures. I don’t allow myself to read one word the first time through because it is just a scan. Then I start at the front and read EVERYTHING until the back. If I’m interrupted, I bookmark the page. I like my mags and I like to read them my way.
I change my clothes all the time. Night, day, after work, etc. I’ve been known to change out of my “comfies” at night to put something totally different and comfortable on to sleep in. It is all about the LOOK to me! Even if I am home alone.
I remember my home address (which was several addresses ago) that I had to learn for entry into kindergarten. I remember several family member’s (and maybe an ex boyfriend’s) social security number(s). If it were into Identity theft I might have quite the advantage. I can remember number sequences! The ability to remember such things has helped me several times in life. It’s a funny thing to have access to.
I can also remember a story that was read to me as a child. Word for word – Eerie!
I have The Princess and the Pea syndrome, passed on to me from my mother. My sheets have to be 600 thread count or higher. I ONLY like Percale sheets, which are hard to find. They MUST be ironed (or pressed by the dry cleaners!) and they have to be tucked in along the bottom, but not tucked in up the sides to any extent. If I could get brand new sheets every other day that were stiff and pressed and cold percale I would be the happiest person on earth. Oh and I mustn’t forget my pillow must be cold, I turn the pillow 100x a night!
I find that many of my neuroses come with my food and etc. I guess I’m picky! From the time I was a baby, my parents and family can testify to this, I had to have cereal the moment I woke up. If not – it would not be a happy day! This still rings pretty true. I like to eat my cereal! I find I am much happier if I remember to eat my cereal sometime in the morning. I like diet coke – I won’t drink Diet Pepsi! I fly particular airlines and eat at certain restaurants because they serve coke products. (I’m a diet coke snob!) Once, while on vacation with my mom and my sister, I wanted a diet coke. Everywhere we went that day had Pepsi products. (We were in San Diego, I think San Diegans like their Pepsi) I was tired and just really wanted a Diet Coke with my dinner. I paid the server an extra $10 to walk out of his restaurant and find me a Diet Coke. Service with a smile is what I got! O HAPPY DAY! I only drink certain brands of herbal tea, water, and etc.
I could go on for days. Now that I’m writing this out, I realize that my neurotic behavior is much worse than I thought. I need a therapist! I just know what I like, and I don’t want anything less. I’m not one for to settle.
AND these of course are just a few!
