Snowmen & UpsideDown Sixes

My sister's youngest is six years old. I call her Baby-T. In her own words, "Aunt Quel calls me baby T and I like it!" At some point during the day I called my sisters house and Baby T answers the phone. I did call to speak with my sister, but I cannot tell her that.... until she asked! "Did you call just to talk to me?"

Me: "No sweetie, I called to talk to everyone."

T: "Will you call me tonight after your work just to talk to me?"

How can I say no to that? Being the youngest my family I understand the need for attention and validation from just about everyone. So, that evening after I got home from work I placed a phone call to Baby T. She answered of course and she was so excited that I had kept my promise to call. Our conversation ranged from what the rest of her family was doing to the names of all my friends in Los Angeles and their boyfriends names. (as she actually repeated them after me and I could hear her making mental notes of friends' names.) Clever this child is!

They are moving kids around in their house and rooms are being built in the basement for the older ones. Upon this subject T starts telling me what her room will look like soon. "I want to have purple and pink carpet, "she starts, "and purple, red, and pink on the walls along with a TV and a bean bag!" I am thinking she has got it all figured out.

T: "After my room is done, then you should come and we can have a sleepover on my beanbag!" "I will ask my mom if it's ok, then maybe she'll let us go on a picnic too!"

You can practically hear the wheels in her head turning to figure out how she will approach the parental units about this bean bag and then the sleepover. A few more highlights of the conversation ... I can't write everything because she trusts me with her "secrets".

T: "I love talking to you on the phone, Aunt Quel, because I can tell you all my secrets!" a few sentences later "Is it dark in your world, Quel?" Yes it is dark in my world. "Our clock has a snowman on it." Oh that is nice, is it a clock your mom only hangs in the winter? "No, I mean the numbers, it has the number that looks like a snowman, you know the ones with 2 circles." Oh, you mean an 8. "Yes, the clock has an 8, it did have (2) 8s but now it turned to an up-side-down 6." An Up-side-down 6 do you mean a 9? "I don't know its name, its looks like a 6 but it is up-side-down." Well the name of that number is 9. "Ya, does your clock have a snowman?" No, sweetie, it's earlier in my world than it is in your world, my clock has a 7 instead of an 8, but it still has the 9 at the end. "So it is not the same time in our worlds?" Nope, it isn't.

Now it is time for Aunt Quel to close the conversation. I had to Pinky Promise through the phone that I would call back often so that we can talk more. According to T, Pinky Promises work the same whether you see them or just put your pinky up to the phone. I bet you didn't know that!
