You say tomato I say, wha?

If you know me, this may not be a shock to you, but I can be a snob sometimes. Not a horrible-bratty- unbearable- snob, I just like what I like how I like it. I have a tomato issue.

As everyone knows California is a great place for produce. We have great fruits and veggies here practically year round. It came as a surprise to me upon discovering that its difficult to find great tomatoes here. I've bought the 'on the vine' tomatoes, the organic tomatoes, and all the other kinds of tomatoes one can think of. Eyeck!!! They just aren't good. The best tomatoes in the world, I am not biased, are grown in Northern Utah. You have never had such a flavorful, savory red tomato as those grown in the '801'.

The thing most people do not realize about tomatoes is that they are sensitive. If they've been in a refrigerator that is too cold, you can tell instantly because it almost tastes as though its been frozen. Tomatoes should NEVER be frozen - or refrigerated in my opinion.

I did have some good, and fresh tomatoes at the Newsroom Cafe on Robertson over the weekend. They had been refrigerated in cold temps though. But they were at least red and had some flavor. That's better than most. I can't wait to visit my family in the late summer and eat all of their fresh grown tomatoes!
