Q&M Paris Trip 2009 (Part II)
the beautiful Printemps department store. It was founded in 1865. I took this photo because it showed the beautiful architecture of Paris so well. You can't see it very well but the words are done in tiles. (Printemps means spring in French)
on Place de l'Opéra. The Opera house has levels and levels of cellars, chandeliers, fountains and even its own ghost! It was Napolean III's idea to build this beautiful building. Charles Garnier was the chosen architect out of over 200 different entries of plans submitted.
It seats 2,000 and has 17 stories taking up 3 acres of land. Seven of these are below the ground, and two contain pieces of the famous lake later depicted in Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.
This is the Opera House from the back. When we left our hotel room that first day, this was the first side of the Opera House that we saw. Its beautiful from any angle. The front and sides gleam with all the gold and naturally, looks amazing at night too, as does everything in Paris!
Typical building architecture that I thought was so pretty - I love how ornate everything is.
There were these bikes all over the city. You could rent them for the whole day for a few Euros and ride them and return them to another bike rack area. I wanted to rent one and ride at night when there was less traffic... we never did get a chance.
