I adore Bob Dylan music. There is not a Dylan song that I don't like...that I know of. One of my all time favorites is "Leopard-Skin Pill Box Hat."
"Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat Yes, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat Well, you must tell me, baby your head feels under somethin' like that Under your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat.
Well, you look so pretty in it Honey, can I jump on it sometime ? Yes, I just wanna see If it's really that expensive kind You know it balances on your head Just like a mattress balances on a bottle of wine Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat." (not full lyrics)
It has playful lyrics mixed with electric blues accompaniment. The song was from Dylan's 1966 Album Blonde on Blonde. I like the song because of its political sub-text which is also why I like Bob Dylan in general. It is also rumored that the song was written about Edie Sedgwick who was known to be an inspirational friend to Dylan and artist, Andy Warhol. Supposedly Dylan and Warhol seemed to have a tug-of-war of sorts for Edie.
Historically, the pill box hat was a military style hat - often accompanied by a chin strap. Jacqueline Kennedy popularized the pill box hat in early 60s with her collection that was designed by Oleg Cassini. Its a very sophisticated hat - I love it.
