Jiminy Cricket! I've Got A Cricket!

Last weekend I discovered a visitor inside of my apartment. Mr. Cricket. I get a lot of crickets in my home. (By a lot I mean 2 or 3 at a time). I really don't mind sharing my home with crickets because they aren't totally gross to look at and they are harmless. Tiny little harmless crickets - I worry about stepping on them more than I worry about getting them out of my home. They are FAR better than huge-hairy- spiders. I used to be a killer of all creatures that were in my living space. I no longer kill things intentionally; I simply put said creature in a covered container and walk them outside while explaining why they can't stay in my home. (I'm not crazy- I just feel that maybe I can reason with them.) So far it has worked because there aren't as many creatures in the home as there used to be.

Back to Mr. Cricket: We aren't on a first name basis, although, if he stays any longer I told him he will need to help with rent. Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, it was the most lovely 85 degree January day. M and I were just hanging out and enjoying the weekend. We have some music going, its late afternoon just before the sun goes down. Music is playing on random and once the Ipod switched to Jay-Z, Mr Cricket starts chirping. LOUDLY! He's right near my desk. I turn off the music to locate him easier- he stops chirping. Turn Jay-Z back on- chirping begins again. I decide that Mr. Cricket likes Jay-Z. Who could blame him? I leave the music on but turn it down so I can figure out where Cricket is. He's somewhere behind my computer, near the wall/floor and/or curtains. I unplug the computer, pull out my whole "office" setup- I sweep, I mop, I beg him to come out and show himself. I even grabbed the vacuum hoping that it would scare him away. I'm going crazy tearing my whole office apart trying to figure out where Mr. Cricket has hidden himself. Its now Wednesday and he is still in the house. I keep telling him he needs to shut it or move out. He chirps ALL DAY and NIGHT. He's worse than the mockingbird that was in the tree 2 years ago. I enjoy the lovely sound of crickets chirping - but I like them outside. I don't need to be serenaded while I'm eating dinner, cleaning, talking on the phone and watching a movie. I need him to go away....
At least he has good taste in music. Bless his little heart.

I would kill him, intentionally. Do I feel guilty? No. I think you are being way too nice here. Much nicer than I would be.
