Haunting is Over
It is all fun and games, until the haunting is over. Halloween was never one of my mother's favorite holidays, as I quickly learned at a very young age. She used to say how silly it was that people would get dressed up and dress up their children to go walk around the neighborhood and beg for candy from strangers. I have to laugh because, she is right, it is silly. However, its necessary silliness.
Children's safety is always an issue, and ever growing, I believe. What is one of the first things you teach children though? Don't talk to strangers, don't take candy from strangers...etc. So every time there is a holiday, what do we do? We tell our kids to talk to and take candy from Strangers. No wonder kids are confused!!! Halloween - walk around in the dark, while disguised and beg for candy from strangers. If they are willing to play along, the strangers probably aren't that strange, right? Christmas...Santa Claus! The kids should go sit on a large, and strange man's lap, to tell him what they want for Christmas! Its cute. I did it when I was a lad. Its craziness though! "And don't forget your candy cane," says the man a large stranger dressed in a RED suit! Easter - same thing. Strange adult dressed like a "bunny"- that doesn't raise any eyebrows? I think we need to stop confusing the kids. Talk to strangers, don't talk to strangers. Make up your mind Please.
I love Halloween! Its a good time for everyone! Bring on the candy!
