Oh! The places I WON'T go!
You know that adorable Dr. Seuss book titled "Oh! The Places You'll Go" ? Well this is my rendition the places that I won't go. It started when I was living in Utah. Everything there was along what they call the Wasatch Front. Along the west side of the Wasatch Mountains. I have a certain boundary, if you will, of places that I refuse to go. There's "pack a lunch distance" for the Salt Lake City area which is anything further south than say 6000 South Street. If you have to go that far - prepare yourself as though you are going on a day trip:
1. Pack a lunch
2. Take some emergency cash
3. Fill up your gas tank and have your oil and tire pressure checked
4. Take your make up and a change of clothes, just in case! From there
Also in the beautiful Salt Lake Valley I have a west boundary. It seems to me that anything West of about 300 West is usually dirty and not worth the trip. They have silly towns and a sort of metropolis/suburban sprawl thing going on. Its nothing that you'll miss out on if you don't go though! Another thing to keep in mind is the Area designated as West Valley is totally out of the question. Unless you "pack heat" and have a bullet proof vest I would suggest staying far away!
Moving on...
Every country and every state and everywhere has a "dirty south". Its no use denying it. There are places within the United States of America that I have no desire to ever visit. Most of the Southern States, I can do without. Sure the southern drawl is cute, but I can imitate that or watch a Reese Witherspoon film if I wish to dabble in the speech. A lot of what I knows goes on in the South is a bit different from what I'm used to. I'm not that interested in fried foods. I can do without extreme humidity. I don't agree that the South will ever rise again.
Living in Los Angeles there are places that I also will not go. This is a matter of taste and sometimes safety. I like to define my perameters so I always know where I stand and where I will NOT stand. My "pack a lunch" distance is anything more than about 40 miles. If its farther than that I prepare for a day trip. Although Pack a luncn distance can vary from city to city depending on transportation, traffic, weather and other things.
