Visiting the 801- Tales of the aging spinster!

You can't say you've been to Utah unless you've LIVED in Utah. Having grown up there, I am familiar with the ways of the natives. I just got back from a small vacation to see my family and friends in Utah. Home sweet home back in Los Angeles is where I am happy to "hang my hat".

Before I begin my synopsis of the week I would first like to say that I have a FABULOUS & WONDERFUL sister. She met me at the airport with water and lotion in hand. Traveling to a drier climate than I live in requires a LOT of moisturizing. THANKS SIS! :)

I had only been in the Utah area for approximately 4 hours before I got asked the most famous question of all. The question that any person over the age of 21, who happens to be solo will inevitably get asked. If I were a wagering girl, I should have thought to put some money on this question. I would be much richer now!!!! The question comes in all shapes and sizes, but it boils down to this, "let me see your left ring finger, why on earth are you not married yet? Geez girl, get your act together. We are so worried about you. You must have 15 cats by now you aging spinster." Hmmmmm, it isn't so much a question as it is demanding, and exclamatory! O well, that is basically how it goes. I've learned to appreciate this question for what it isn't, and not for what it is. I know that those who truly love me and care about me see the humor in this as much as I do. The rest of you-- BACK THE HELL OFF! Its 2007! Get with it. Stop asking people annoying questions.

(I feel at this point I can write about anything concerning my visit. Most of my immediate family doesn't read this and I highly doubt my extended family does. If they do, and are offended, you know where to find me! For my faithful friends for whom this blog is written, you understand and hopefully have laughed a little already!)

Sunday, after an hour of being spiritually uplifted, I treated mom and dad to a late-Mother's Day- and early -Father's Day- Brunch. It was delish! After we had sufficiently fueled up-- we set on our journey to Draper. Draper is the home of Utah's newest big thing, the IKEA store. If I hadn't just eaten brunch I would have prepared with a packed lunch and some extra fuel in a can inside the trunk, Draper is so far from where I like to be I consider it "Pack -a - lunch- distance". That gives you a rough idea of how far it is. (FAR!) Mom and dad LOVED IKEA! Apparently so did the rest of Utah. It was terribly busy that day and I hope to never go back when it is that busy.

Part II coming soon!
